Sindh government says ready to hold LG vote

KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government of Sindh, in a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday, expressed willingness to hold the long-delayed election for local governments in 16 of 30 provincial districts.

The letter said the vote could not be held in Khairpur Nathan Shah and Mehar tehsils of Dadu due to stagnating floodwater, and requested the tribunal to suspend the election schedule in the area.

Meanwhile, the commission has fixed the hearing of a petition involving the local government polls in Karachi. It will also hear the case related to the appointment of district administrators in Karachi.

The commission issued notices to the Sindh government, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Jamaat-e-Islami ahead of the hearing.
