Hammad warns of economic collapse if govt’s strategy persists

LAHORE: PTI leader and former finance minister Hammad Azhar on Tuesday hit out at the government for worsening economic situation in the country, stressing change in the strategy to avoid financial collapse.

Mr Azhar said the economy of the country was on the verge of collapse and predicted shortage of various commodities and increase in prices if the strategy remained unchanged. Taking a dig at Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, he said: “Economy needs serious decision making, and not Ishaq Dar”.

For Pakistanis, the outgoing 2022 was a year of turmoil as inflation that plagued the country at the end of 2021 touched new extremes this year. By November last, the consumer price index surged to nearly 24 per cent, with prices of essential food items going beyond the limit of ordinary people.
