3,000 yatrees reach today: Minister orders to probe into special train’s derailment

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Saturday constituted an inquiry committee to reveal causes and fix responsibility for negligence in the derailment of a special train, carrying Sikh yatrees.

According Pakistan Railways sources, the investigation committee would comprise of chief operating officer (COPS) safety, chief engineer (CEN) open lines and chief mechanical engineer (CME) carriage which will present its initial report within three days.

It is important to mention here that nine coaches of Nankana Sahib bound Sikh Special train, coming from Karachi, derailed between Shorkot and Pir Mahal Saturday morning at 7:55. However, luckily no causality or injury was reported in the incident. The PR shifted several of the passengers to safe coaches which later left for Nankana Sahib at 9:55 am.

However, arrangements have been made to transport other passengers to their sacred place Nankana Sahib.

3,000 Indian Sikh yatrees to reach Pakistan

As many as 3,000 Sikh yatrees will enter Pakistan from India through Wahga border crossing on Sunday (today) to participate in the 553th birthday celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak.

Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Habibur Rehman, members of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) and board officials would receive the yatrees.

Additional Secretary Shrines Rana Shahid said that on the directions of the ETPB chairman, all arrangements including security of the yatrees had been completed. The main ceremony of the birthday of Baba Guru Nankana would be held at Janumasthan Nankana Sahib on Nov 8 in which different religious, political and minority leaders would participate.
