POL price hike: Transporters raise fares on local routes in twin cities

ISLAMABAD: Public transport owners in the federal capital have increased fares on local routes on their own following a whopping Rs30 in per litre hike in the prices of the petroleum products.

According to details, the transporters in the wake increase in the prices of petroleum products have jacked up fares on local routes, adding the burden of the masses already grappling with ever-rising inflation.

The commuters complained that they are being charged by the transporters on a whim and if anybody objects, they get he/she off the vehicle, forcing the commuters to hire much expensive taxi or rickshaw to reach their destination.

The commuters regretted that women and elderly persons are no exception for these uneducated and ill-mannered conductors and cleaners of the public transport.

Another tactic the transport mafia practices after Asr time, the public transport vehicles on different routes don’t complete route due to which the commuters have to pay the fare twice. “This public transport mafia is unbridled and seems to be unanswerable to anybody mainly due to bribe they pay to the departments supposed to check them”, the commuters alleged, adding that the drivers of public transport vehicles are the beneficiary of all (situations) and they know the art of “how to mint money the public.”

The residents of twin cities have demanded the authorities concerned take strict action against the transporters engaged in such illegal tactics, adding the government should take measures to address miseries of the commuters.
