Television veteran Masood Akhtar passes away

LAHORE: Veteran actor Masood Akhtar passed away Saturday morning after spending more than a month in a local hospital in Lahore.

Akhtar, 82, was battling lung cancer for some time. He was admitted to the facility in critical condition on January 28, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

He is best known for playing a range of characters in movies, television dramas and theatre.

One of his early plays, Paisa Bolta Hai, was played at Alhamra Art Center in 1970, earning him popularity.

He also received the Pride of Performance award for his services.

The funeral will be held at 4:00 pm in the Gulshan-i-Ravi neighbourhood of Lahore, SAMAA reported.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said the services rendered by Akhtar will be long remembered.

He was one of the finest artists of our country, tweeted Senator Faisal Javed Khan.
