PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing in an assets case against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Captain (r) Safdar Awan following a strike of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council.
The council has been on a strike since October 17 against changes to the Code of Civil Procedure which were introduced through an ordinance in December last year.
The inquiry against Safdar has been in progress for around two years over the possession of assets allegedly disproportionate to known sources of his income, which is a crime under the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999.
Subsequently, on October 9, the bureau chief, Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, issued warrants for his arrest in the case. Safdar has been on a bail ever since.
During the hearing, NAB counsel Azeem Daad insisted the case should be heard at a later date. At this, the court said it will decide another date once the strike ends and extended Safdar’s bail.
