PM directs Punjab govt to ensure uninterrupted wheat, flour supply

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the Punjab government to ensure that that there should be no shortage of wheat and flour as it is a basic need of the citizens and the Food Department and local administration should not shy away from any action in this regard.

He said this during a meeting with Punjab Food Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, who called on the premier in Islamabad and gave him a detailed briefing on the current situation of wheat and flour in Punjab.

The provincial minister told PM Imran that this year, the official release of wheat has been started prematurely in all the districts of Punjab with the objective of ensuring an ample supply of flour. He thanked the premier for accepting the proposals of the provincial government regarding the import of 1.5 million tonnes of wheat immediately. He also expressed gratitude for the approval and supply of wheat at low rates like Punjab to the flour mills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

He further said that these two decisions would reduce the burden on Punjab province regarding wheat and flour and there should be less price margin between the two provinces.

Aleem Khan also apprised the prime minister about the operations being carried out in different districts of Punjab against hoarding and illicit profiteering. He said that Punjab has abundant wheat reserves and God willing, there will be no shortage in any area of Punjab.

The provincial minister said that the process of supply of flour at a controlled rate is going on in all the districts of the province on a daily basis and nowhere is there any complaint of shortage or sale of flour.
