The National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday resumed talks over the ongoing locust issue which has already seen the destruction of vast areas of farmland in the country as lawmakers pressed for sufficient resources to be allocated to address this insect’s attack.
According to the details, a number of lawmakers are of the opinion that the pests would contribute largely to the challenges brought on by the coronavirus pandemic as they were devouring crops and threatening food security. They called for aerial sprays in the affected districts.
The MNAs who have addressed the house on this issue thus far include Khawja Sheraz Mehmood of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Sabir Hussain Kaimkhani of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
State-owned enterprises, including the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) and Pakistan Post, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crash in Karachi, the coronavirus pandemic, and stranded overseas Pakistanis, also came under discussion as the session convened.
Meanwhile, Adviser to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan also presented four bills before the house as well as the Tax Laws (Amendment) Ordinance 2020 before the lower house.
