PESHAWAR: Uplift funds of as many as 64 development projects which were to be completed during the current fiscal year have been redistributed to other departments in violation of rules and regulations by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government.
The provincial Planning and Development (P&D) department has raised an objection and sought clarification from the concerned departments in this regard.
According to the details, 64 projects of 11 administrative departments were scheduled to be completed this year. However, more than Rs1.5 billion allocated funds have been transferred to other departments.
According to the KP Finance Department, the projects from which funds were redistributed, include 24 road construction projects, 10 projects in primary and secondary education, six for clean water supply, four for higher education, four for religious endowments and minority affairs, three each for clean water supply and sanitation, one each for agriculture, energy, social welfare and sports and culture, while two each for construction, minerals, food, law, municipalities and multi-sector development.
According to sources, the KP government, which is facing financial difficulties, is shifting the funds of several important projects of various departments to other projects in order to reward their blue eyed members of the ruling party.
“This will not only delay the ongoing projects but also increase costs,” sources said.
