ISLAMABAD: A special Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) charter flight carrying stranded Pakistanis will depart from Newark, New Jersey for Lahore on May 17 to bring back Pakistanis stranded in the United States.
According to a statement issued by the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, the government has also advised PIA to plan and operate more flights from the US for the repatriation of Pakistani citizens. Dates, cities of origin and destinations in Pakistan will be announced in due course of time, it added.
“All Pakistani citizens who wish to take these flights and have not yet registered with Pakistan Embassy Washington or its four consulates in the US are requested to immediately contact nearest Pakistani consulate on hotlines which are already provided. Schedule related details can also be obtained from PIA through its website (www.piac.aero) and call centre +92 21 111 786 786 or on www.covid.gov.pk,” the statement concluded.
It is worth mentioning here that the government has also decided to send a special flight of the national flag carrier to bring back stranded nationals on May 18.
The announcement was made last week by Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Overseas Pakistani Syed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari on Twitter. “I’m very happy for the 1st flight going to Wuhan to bring back our Pakistani students on 18/05/2020,” he had said. “You guys have been the bravest soldiers, PM Imran Khan & Pakistan are proud of you,” he had added.
