LAHORE: The government of Punjab on Thursday decided to partially open Ramzan Bazaars whereas the schedule of market timings would be announced in a day or two.
While addressing a media briefing here on Thursday, Provincial Minister of Industries Mian Aslam Iqbal said that the closing time of Ramzan markets would also be extended.
“Traders should ensure that precautionary measures regarding coronavirus are taken in the markets which will be open during Ramzan. Any negligence would result in the market being immediately closed,” he added.
“Lahore would be divided into two parts with the markets on both sides of the canal which will be opened on alternate days,” Iqbal added.
While speaking about taking actions against hoarders, he said that the government has confiscated a hidden stock worth Rs3 billion. “Any stock which is undeclared will be considered as hoarding. We have confiscated a total of 718 tonnes of wheat, 1,817 tons ghee, 16,000 tonnes of sugar, as well as 1,440 tonnes of rice, pulses and grains from hoarders,” he explained.
“The government will take strict actions against hoarders as people are already suffering and we will not allow anyone to add to their sufferings. We will not allow anyone to sell any item on prices higher than decided and will keep a check on the demand and supply in this regard,” the minister vowed.
He concluded by saying that there are 216 places in Punjab where there is a smart lockdown as May is expected to be a tough month and everyone should be careful about catching the virus.
