Jamshed Dasti handed in police custody for four days

MUZAFFARGARH: A sessions and district court in Muzaffargarh on Friday handed over former MNA Jamshed Dasti to police on four-day physical remand in an oil-tanker robbery case.

Dasti was produced before the magistrate by police where the court gave him in their custody for four days. He was arrested from Multan by police on Thursday in an oil tanker loot case.

Dasti was arrested after a second case was registered against him on Feb 4 in the case. The police had caught two accomplices and two police officers in relation to the looting of oil tankers.

It was reported that Dasti had help from local police officers. A former union council chairman, Malik Ajmal, and a trade union leader Malik Abid have also been taken into custody.

In April 2013, Dasti was sentenced to 3 years in prison and Rs5,000 fine for presenting a fake graduation degree during the 2008 election.

On 10 April 2013, the Multan bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) heard Dasti’s appeal and overturned his conviction.
