ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab President Rana Sanaullah Khan on Friday lashed out at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for ‘falsely’ implicating him in a drugs case and urged a judicial commission be made to probe the case filed against him by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).
Speaking at the floor of the Lower House after six months in ANF’s detention, Sanaullah claimed he was falsely charged and challenged that evidence against him to be brought to the fore.
He maintained that no individual in Pakistan was not safe under the current circumstances.
He also swore his innocence on a copy of the Holy Quran during his address.
Responding to Sanaullah’s remarks, Minister for Communications Murad Saeed said the ANF was an independent and credible institution but regretted it was targeted after Sanaullah’s bail.
He recalled that the allegations of murder as well as connections with proscribed outfits against Sanaullah were not levelled by the PTI but by the members of his party.
He said PTI believes in the rule of law and justice and added that Minister of State Shehryar Afridi would brief the House about Sanaullah’s case.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) in December last year had granted bail to PML-N Punjab president in the drugs case.
Sanaullah, who also served as the Punjab law minister during the previous PML-N government and known for his tough talk, was arrested by the ANF on July 1 from the Islamabad-Lahore motorway near Sukheki.
The ANF claimed to have recovered 15 kilogrammes of heroin and other drugs from his possession in the operation conducted on a tip-off. At least five people, including the driver and the security guard, were also nabbed.
Sanaullah had been in the detention of the ANF for over six months.
