ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Naseem has decided to represent the government in a civil miscellaneous petition filed with the Supreme Court (SC) seeking a stay order on the apex court’s judgement directing the parliament to legislate on the extension/reappointment of an army chief within six months.
The government has also requested the court to form a five-member larger bench in the case.
Meanwhile, a petition for Farogh Naseem to represent as an advocate has been filed in the SC. The law minister asserted that he does not require resigning from his portfolio for representing the case in the court, pointing out that a judicial decision allows him to appear as a lawyer without resignation.
According to details, the government has filed two miscellaneous pleas seeking a stay order on the previous decision, and to form a larger bench following the review petition which was filed earlier.
The government has requested the apex court to suspend the implementation of the decision of November 28 till the review petition’s verdict is announced.
