NAB busts former DC Malir in govt land transfer scam

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday detained former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Malir, Kazi Jan Muhammad, for allegedly assisting the illegal transfer of government land.

In a statement issued by the accountability watchdog, it was stated that Muhammad was involved in the illegal transfer of the ownership rights of 27 plots – that was government property.

The property, which was located in Sector 31 of Karachi’s Scheme 33, was allotted to Abdullah Shah Ghazi in a counterfeited settlement by Muhammad in a blatant abuse of his office.

The land, which is worth 2.5 billion, was allotted “in connivance with other revenue officials”, the press release read.

The former DC, who was detained from the Karachi’s DHA Phase-VII area, will be produced before an accountability court today. The anti-graft watchdog will also request for his physical remand.

Muhammad is amongst those 172 officials who were earlier placed on Exit Control List (ECL) by the government and is also demanded in several other NAB cases.
