SHC seeks report from PTA chief in alleged harassment of woman case

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday sought comprehensive report by November 16 from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman after contacting with concerned departments in a case of a woman being allegedly harassed on social media.

A two-judge bench of SHC headed by Justice Sallah-u-Din Pahnwar heard the petition and remarked that where internet is a facility for getting in touch with millions of people, it is also being misused for the wrong purposes by some people.

The court ordered for an arrangement of a mechanism for the removal of unauthorised materials and checking misuse of the internet.

A Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) official told the court that it is getting difficult to conduct an inquiry without the cooperation of the mobile phone companies.

Following that, the court also ordered mobile companies to cooperate with the investigation officer in this regard.
