BADIN: Removal of illegal constructions on both the banks of Kazia Canal was protested by a group of citizens.
The protestors led by Advocate Essa Mallah, councillors Khalifa Tariq Memon, Gulzar Memon and others staged a demonstration at the Kazia Canal bridge and chanted slogans against the municipal authorities.
The protestors pelted heavy machinery and encroachment removal staff with stones, forcing them to retreat. They also burnt tires along the main road leading towards Hyderabad and Karachi, suspending traffic on the busy road for hours.
However, the officials said they had launched the drive against illegal constructions along the Kazia Canal on the directives of court.
Earlier, Badin Mukhtiarkar and DSP negotiated with the protesters and it was decided to hold further talks on Friday.
