Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Additional Secretary Capt (r) Muhammad Aftab on Friday was appointed as the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) chairman in place of Siddiqul Farooq.
In the wake of Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan’s decision in the Katas Raj Temple case, Aftab was appointed the new ETPB chairman with immediate effect for a period of three months, announced the Interfaith Harmony Wing of the government.
During the hearing of the suo motu case regarding the Katas Raj Temple on Wednesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar had noted that the tenure of the former ETPB chairman had ended, however, he was still in office. Appointments should not be made on personal preferences and political affiliations, the chief justice had said.
Subsequently, the SC had ordered the removal of Farooq as the ETPB chief over his controversial appointment.
