NEW YORK: Maryam Nawaz, daughter of the disqualified prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, was named among the top 11 powerful women of the world on Sunday in a 2017 ranking issued by New York Times.
She was ranked by the newspaper as the most courageous and most powerful woman of Pakistan and is the most suitable heir to the political empire that her father and ousted premier Nawaz Sharif has built, however, could face hinderance in gaining further popularity due to corruption references and court cases.
“She had recently emerged as the right hand of her father, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,” NY Times wrote.
Manal al-Sharif of Saudi Arabia is also among the top 11 most powerful women of the New York Times.
The report further said, “Since its inception in 2002, the Saturday Profile has aimed to bring to readers of The New York Times people around the world they probably have never heard of, but who have led interesting lives and done extraordinary things, or perhaps recently gone through a remarkable experience.”
