GUJRANWALA: A man assaulted his wife and forced her to drink acid during a domestic dispute in Kalar Abadi area of Gujranwala on Tuesday.

According to reports, the assaulter identified as Azmat, wanted his wife to transfer property to his name and on his wife’s refusal tortured her.

The woman was taken to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in a critical condition and is currently out of danger. Meanwhile, the accused has managed to escape after the incident, according to police sources.

The survivor, while speaking to media, claimed that she got married about four years ago after which her parents had gifted her a piece of land. However, she said that her husband used to assault her and demanded that she transfer the land in his name.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

Pakistan is among the few countries with extremely high levels of domestic violence. A research revealed that 90 per cent women in Pakistan face verbal, physical and mental violence.

On September 24, 2016, a case emerged of a husband assaulting his wife for failing to charge his mobile phone. The nature of the assault was so severe that the woman had to be hospitalised.

Police said that the incident took place on the outskirts of Dera Ghazi Khan in Hasan Town. The couple had tied the knot only six months ago.

The husband who has been identified as Faraz had asked his wife to charge the phone but she forgot to do so. This led to Faraz severely beating his wife with a stick, breaking her shoulder and leg.
