If we compare the population increase of Lahore and Karachi according to the sixth population census report I can be seen that the population of Lahore increased almost twice as fast as Karachi.
Karachi’s population as per the 2017 census is 14,910,352 which was 9,339,023 according to the 1998 census. The population of Lahore is 11,126,285 according to the current census which was 5,143,495. This shows a 59.65% increase in Karachi’s population and a 116.3% increase in Karachi’s population between 1998 and 2017.
According to the census results, Karachi’s population is barely 3 million more than Lahore now despite a huge difference in the area both the countries cover. However, Karachi still remains the most populated city in the country.
It is pertinent to mention that a number of political parties have rejected the census report.
