The Lahore High Court (LHC) remarked on Thursday that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was an autonomous institution and could take a decision regarding the postponement of local body (LB) elections in Muharram.
Justice Ijazul Hassan directed the petitioner to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the matter.
The petitioner, the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), had urged the court to postpone the elections for security reasons during Muharram and sought directives for the ECP for issuance of a new schedule.
