ANP moves motion against GST in Senate

Awami National Party (ANP) moved an adjournment motion in Senate over implementation of the increase in general sales tax (GST) prior to Parliament’s approval.

ANP Senators Zahid Khan, Afrasiab Khattak and Haji Adeel moved the motion in the Upper House.

They took the stance that it was unconstitutional to implement the increase in GST before the proposal had been passed by the Parliament.

They said immediate debate should be held on the issue since GST directly affected prices of victuals among other things, adding that privilege of both houses had been mortified by implementation of the proposal before its approval.
