A petition, challenging the recent hike of Rs 3.04 per unit in electricity tariff, was filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday. The petitioner, Advocate M Kokab, contended in his petition that according to Article 9 people had a right to live and that provision of basic rights was responsibility of the government.

He added the government was trying to snatch the right to live from the people by increasing electricity prices with every coming day. He argued that the increase in power tariff was violation of Article 9. The petitioner prayed to the court to order the authorities concerned to withdraw the recent decision of increasing power prices.
