Inter student charged with blasphemy

KARACHI – The police on Saturday arrested a teenage boy for allegedly writing blasphemous material on examination answer sheets. Seventeen-year-old ‘S’, a resident of Malir, was detained following a complaint by Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Controller of Examinations Agha Akbar Mirza, police said.

LAHORE – A student from Azad Jammu and Kashmir joined the Indian Republic Day celebrations at Rajouri district in Indian-held Kashmir, and was all praise for democracy in the state, according to a report in The Hindu newspaper.

Student congregations a no-no inside KU campus

KARACHI – Any kind of student congregations on campus have been banned by the University of Karachi (KU) administration, with the decision set to be enforced from January 15 – when students return for the new academic session, Pakistan Today has learnt.
The varsity administration, in a meeting with the Rangers director-general (DG), has also decided to hand over its security affairs to Pakistan Rangers due to the prevailing law and order situation on campus, sources said.

Special student wins three gold medals at PU

PU student wins five gold medals in athletics

LAHORE – Sehrish Asghar, a student of Punjab University Hailey College of Banking and Finance, won five gold medals in 400m, 800m, 1500m, 100 x 4m and 400 x 4m races in Pakistan Inter University Athletics Championship. The championship was organized by Higher Education Commission in collaboration with Punjab University at Punjab Stadium from December 20 to 21. 15 universities from all over Pakistan participated in the games, won by Punjab University by securing 380 record numbers.

Student protest chokes traffic at New Muslim Town Morr

LAHORE: Protests organised by students of various colleges on Saturday created a massive traffic jam on roads adjacent to the New Muslim Town Morr.
Punjab College students were protesting against police torture of students and teachers at the Punjab Assembly a couple of days ago. Two people, including a University of Engineering and Technology (UET) student, committed suicide over domestic issues in two different areas of the city on Wednesday.
