ISLAMABAD – Interior Affairs Minister Rehman Malik has said that the Punjab Police was responsible to provide security to Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer and it (police) would be questioned about the security lapse.
Talking to reporters, Rehman said that Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, who joined the security squad (of the governor) from Rawalpindi, has been arrested on basis of his confession that he killed Salmaan Taseer because he had declared the blasphemy law a ‘black law.’
Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer was assassinated in Islamabad by his bodyguard on Tuesday afternoon.
According to initial reports an Elite Force guard fired at Governor Taseer, who was hit in the chest and upper half of the body. The Elite Force guard said he killed governor over defending a Christian woman who was allegedly involved in blasphemy. The guard was identified as Malik Mumtaz Qadri.

LAHORE – The private publishers have virtually taken over the management of Punjab Textbook Board (PTB), throwing to winds the standards set in the National Textbook and Learning Materials Policy (NTLMP).
The curriculum wing of federal ministry of education issued the NTLMP in 2007. The purpose of the policy was the improvement of textbooks and learning materials but the policy has fallen foul to the benefit of private publishers, corrupt mafia and incompetent writers.

LAHORE – The crippling industry has been hit by another shock as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has decided to increase gas curtailment hours for Punjab industries during January.
The SNGPL was supplying three and half days in a week gas to the industrial sector. This has now been increased to four days; sources said adding that load-shedding would be done on rotational basis.
