LAHORE – The 25th Lahore International Book Fair 2011 will kick off today at Lahore Expo Center, Johar Town. Books from a wide range of categories will be presented for sale at the book fair which will continue till April 11. Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif will open the book fair that will have hundreds of stalls from India, England, America and Pakistan.

LAHORE – The Transport Association increased bus fares by 15 percent following the increase in petrol prices.
Punjab secretary general of the All Pakistan Transport Owners Federation and Urban Transport Owners Association, Arshad Khan announced that the inter-city buses and wagon fares have been increased due to the escalating petrol prices and the new fares .
He said that the operation of buses at old rates was not feasible after the government had increased diesel prices

LAHORE – Harbanspura locals beat up four Muhafiz Squad police officers after midnight on Friday, thinking that they were dacoits. The local police late the same night reached the spot on a wireless call and arrested six people while different cases were registered against 18.

LAHORE – Model Town Football Club’s President Mian Rizwan Ali has announced the panel under Rizwan Group for the football elections of Lahore District for the term 2011-15. He introduced the panel members at a function held in MTFA Ground.
Rizwan, who will contest for the post of President, has been named as Rizwan Group panel leader. The football election of the District Lahore will be held on March 30.

LAHORE – Provincial Punjab Election Commissioner has appointed Chaudhry Liaquat Iqbal as Lahore District Convener to conduct the Lahore Football Elections 2011. The Lahore Football hailed PPEC’s decision as everyone is impressed by Iqbal’s way of working. Meanwhile, Iqbal has asked all the 39 clubs of Lahore to submit their nomination papers for the office of DFA Lahore latest by March 20.
LAHORE – The Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) remained bearish with stagnant volume. The LSE 25-shares lost 68.33 points to close at 3,579.04 against its opening at 3,647.37 levels. Out of total 101 active scrips, 11 went up, 42 went down and 48 closed without any change in their opening values. The volume of the market remained 3.92 million shares, which was 0.28 million shares more than Monday’s turnover of 3.64 million shares.

The meeting, chaired by Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, also approved the draft bills of the Punjab Food Safety & Standard Authority Act 2011 and the Online Legislation Project for promoting public awareness about the laws of provincial departments.
