Medical facilities unaffected despite crunch: health secretary

LAHORE – The Punjab Health Department ‘tried’ to overcome the financial constraint by reducing non-development expenditure, and despite financial crunch, services delivery system was not affected and special attention was being paid to provide medical facilities to the people, Punjab Health Secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad said on Tuesday.

SC acquits bomb blast accused

LAHORE – A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday acquitted an accused who was earlier awarded life sentence by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on his alleged involvement in Ichhra bomb blast, five years ago.
Police had arrested Asghar, a resident of Sadiqabad, soon after the incident and had charged him for selling the bicycle which was used for the blast. He was tried in the ATC, which had awarded him life imprisonment on two counts. LHC had also upheld the decision.


Throwing smoke in the eyes of police

LAHORE – Despite recent government notification, Police Department has “closed eyes” to sale of Sheesha and other smoking products in all major restaurants and cafes. The Punjab government promulgated Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers’ Health Ordinance in 2002 to ban smoking in public places.

LAHORE – “We have never seen such a huge fire in our whole lives and it seemed like doomsday,” Shah Alam Market traders on Monday. Plazas which caught fire had highly inflammable items stored in them, which helped the fire spread. LAHORE – Severe traffic jams were witnessed on all adjoining roads to the Main Circular Road due to the fire, which erupted at the Shah Alam Market on Monday. LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday ordered vote recounting in NA-157 Khanewal-III on a petition challenging election of Hamid Yar Hiraj from the constituency.
