‘Winter Love’ wins hearts with its breezy rom-com vibes

HUM TV’s Winter Love is winning appreciation for offering viewers a light-hearted romantic comedy at a time when Pakistani television is largely dominated by troubled marriages, toxic relationships and emotionally exhausting family conflicts.

The drama brings together Mawra Hocane and Khushhal Khan as Mushk and Hayat, two contrasting personalities whose frequent clashes gradually develop into a playful romance. Their fresh pairing, humorous exchanges and slow-burn chemistry have become the main attraction for viewers.

Mushk is introduced as a young woman struggling to rebuild her life after losing her parents in a road accident. Still dealing with grief and financial complications, she decides to take responsibility for the matchmaking office previously managed by her mother.

Hayat, on the other hand, is carefree, sociable and far less interested in planning every detail of his future. He helps Mushk during a difficult roadside encounter, only to later discover that their workplaces are located next to each other. What follows is a series of disagreements, accidental meetings and comic situations that repeatedly bring them together.

Mushk’s serious and controlling nature clashes with Hayat’s relaxed approach to life. However, beneath his playful personality, Hayat is shown to be thoughtful and fond of literature and poetry—an interest he shares with his father, Gulzar.

The supporting cast strengthens the drama’s family-comedy atmosphere. Asif Raza Mir plays Gulzar, Hayat’s poetry-loving father, while Asma Abbas appears as his outspoken mother, Gulnaz. Their lively relationship provides some of the drama’s most entertaining domestic moments.

The cast also includes Sakina Samo, Ali Gul Mallah, Deepak Perwani, Alina Abbas Shah, Nazeeha Zainab and Muez Khan, among others. Rather than using the supporting characters only to create villains and conspiracies, the serial gives them comic interactions, romantic subplots and distinctive personalities.

Written by Sarah Majeed, directed by Danish Nawaz and produced by Momina Duraid Productions, Winter Love premiered on HUM TV on April 10. The serial airs on Fridays and Saturdays and is also available digitally through the channel’s official platforms.

Viewers have particularly praised the drama’s easy-going mood and its decision to build the story around romance, family humour and personality clashes. Mawra’s energetic performance as Mushk and Khushhal’s mischievous portrayal of Hayat have helped make even ordinary scenes—parking disputes, office encounters and family conversations—feel entertaining.

The outdoor locations and wintry visual treatment have also added to the drama’s appeal. Scenic roads, rainy encounters and cosy settings give the production a softer appearance compared with conventional serials that unfold almost entirely inside tense family homes.

Some viewers have found Mushk’s behaviour overly childish and the humour uneven in places, but the drama’s overall tone has still been welcomed as a refreshing break. Audiences appear willing to overlook its familiar romantic-comedy devices because the story does not constantly depend on cruelty, abuse or prolonged suffering to create interest.

With Winter Love, Pakistani television has returned to the opposites-attract formula but presented it with warmth, colour and humour. Mushk and Hayat’s journey may contain familiar misunderstandings and marriage complications, yet its cheerful treatment is precisely what has made the drama stand out.

For viewers tired of watching one tragedy after another, Winter Love offers a simpler pleasure: attractive locations, entertaining families and two stubborn people slowly falling for each other.
