President summons National Assembly and Senate sessions for June 10

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned sessions of both houses of parliament on June 10, with the National Assembly to meet at 5pm at Parliament House and the Senate to convene at 4pm the same day.

The National Assembly Secretariat said the president called the lower house session under Article 54(1) of the Constitution. It will be the 28th session of the 16th National Assembly.

Earlier in the day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had said the budget for the next fiscal year, FY2026-27, was likely to be presented in parliament on June 12. He also said summaries seeking the convening of budget sessions of the National Assembly and Senate on June 10 had been sent to the presidency for approval.

Before the announcement, there had been uncertainty over the budget date as the federal government, its coalition allies and provincial governments were trying to reach agreement on the Centre’s demand for more than Rs1 trillion for strategic needs. The meeting of the National Economic Council was also postponed for the third time on Monday at the last minute amid ongoing negotiations over freezing provincial shares in the federal divisible pool under the NFC Award.
