CDA approves plan to create three agencies in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) board on Monday gave in-principle approval to the creation of three new agencies within the authority: the Solid Waste Management Agency, the Parks and Horticulture Agency Islamabad (PHAI), and the Islamabad Water Agency.

The board met under CDA Chairman retired Lt Sohail Ashraf and also took up other agenda items, making several policy decisions. The three agencies will remain part of the CDA but will operate with greater autonomy to improve service delivery.

The board also approved the establishment of a Project Management Unit (PMU) for the environment wing so that development projects of the wing can be carried out without the involvement of the engineering wing. The approval came on a summary moved by Member Environment Abdullah Khurram Niazi.

An official said the member environment should ensure that engineers posted to the PMU have a good reputation. The official said some engineers facing allegations were trying to secure key positions in the new unit.

“Some engineers with tainted reputation, even one with two years of increment deduction for corruption charges and known for carrying out projects before tenders, are making efforts to get the main posting at PMU for executing development projects at the environment wing,” said an official.
