PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Friday condemned the continued detention of former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, describing it as unlawful and inhumane.
Addressing a provincial cabinet meeting, Afridi said both were being kept in solitary confinement and were not provided with basic winter necessities. He also criticised the use of water cannons against Khan’s sisters during a protest outside Adiala Jail, calling it a “shameful” display.
The chief minister said the provincial government would pursue all political and legal avenues to protect citizens’ rights and address federal obligations. He noted that during a recent NFC meeting, a subcommittee had been formed to safeguard provincial interests, with recommendations on pending dues to be presented to the federal government.
Afridi highlighted that although Rs 100 billion per year had been promised for the merged districts, only Rs 168 billion had been disbursed over seven years, leaving Rs 532 billion outstanding. He directed all departments to submit weekly letters to the federal government documenting pending dues to ensure accountability.

Practical advice that’s easy to implement. Much appreciated.
