Imran Khan refuses lie detector test for fourth time

RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, on Monday refused to undergo a lie detector test for the fourth time. A team comprising police officials and members of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) had to return after waiting for four hours at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

The anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore had authorized the tests as part of investigations related to cases filed against Imran and other PTI leaders following the May 9 and 10, 2023, attacks on army installations.

The investigation team, led by DSP Asif Javed and including PFSA inspectors and a technical expert, arrived at the jail to conduct polygraph, photogrammetric, and voice matching tests. Despite being informed about the court order, Imran declined to participate.

Earlier, Khan had insisted on undergoing the tests only in the presence of his lawyers. When the team returned with his legal counsel, Imran provided a written response citing Article 13, which protects individuals from being compelled to self-incriminate.

Lahore ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill had ordered completion of these tests within 12 days of May 14, permitting the prosecution to meet Imran in jail during this period.

Meanwhile, PTI leaders Salman Akram Raja and Malik Ahmed Khan clarified at a Lahore press conference that there are no restrictions on Imran’s sons returning to Pakistan and engaging in politics. Imran’s sons, Kasim and Suleiman, reside in the United Kingdom with their mother, Jemima Goldsmith.

In a rare social media interview, the sons spoke about alleged democratic suppression in Pakistan and the hardships their father faces in prison. They appealed to US President Donald Trump and the international community to aid in securing Imran Khan’s release.
