Arrest warrant out for ex-PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat in construction violation case

RAWALPINDI: A non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued for former PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat by a Rawalpindi civil court, stemming from allegations of illegal construction activities.

The warrant was prompted by a complaint from the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) about unauthorized structures near the Thalian Motorway Interchange. The court has ordered that Sher Afzal Marwat be apprehended and presented in court by July 30.

The RDA lodged a case against Marwat for erecting buildings without proper permissions, thereby breaching development regulations. He is accused of constructing on a plot without the necessary approvals, in direct violation of the RDA’s bylaws.

On a related note, on July 13, PTI suspended Sher Afzal Marwat’s basic party membership following directives from the party’s founder, Imran Khan, due to “violations” of discipline and policies. The suspension came after Marwat failed to provide adequate responses to show-cause notices issued to him.

An inquiry committee was established after the PTI founder authorized leadership to act against those breaching policy. According to a notification by PTI Secretary-General Omar Ayub, Marwat’s continued infractions of party discipline and his damaging statements against party leadership led to his suspension.

The notification highlighted that his actions have adversely affected the party and its leaders, and he has not provided satisfactory justifications for his conduct.

Previously, a show-cause notice was issued to Marwat by PTI Secretary-General Omar Ayub Khan for making irresponsible statements deemed harmful to the party’s image. The notice demanded explanations for these statements, which contravened the party’s discipline, within three days. Failure to respond adequately could result in further disciplinary actions.
