Punjab, Jiangsu police join hands to prevent financial crimes, arrest criminals

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Faisal Shahkar on Friday said that to keep pace with fast changing dynamics, it is very important to engage in cooperation and working relationship with police forces of neighboring countries for capacity building of police personnel, provision of modern equipment and crime prevention.

“Such measures will help build capacity of the Punjab Police officials to aware of the procedures and skills used in policing at global level, perform the duty of crime prevention, suppression of criminals and public security in an efficient manner.”

Punjab IG Police Faisal Shahkar was speaking at the MoU signing ceremony between the Punjab Police and China’s Jiangsu Public Security Department here at Central Police office. Under the MoU, both the institutions will work together for security of citizens, regional peace and social stability.

The signing ceremony was held at Central Police office in which IG Police Faisal Shahkar and Chinese Consul General Lahore Zhao Shiren were present while Jiangsu Police Chief and senior Chinese officials participated through video link. It was agreed upon to enhance cooperation in crime prevention, public security and capacity building of officials. Bilateral cooperation for prevention of financial crimes, arrest of criminals and recovery of goods stolen abroad were also decided. Under the MoU, Punjab Police and Jiangsu will work together to protect constitutional rights of each other’s citizens, investors, citizens, national institutions and officials’ interests in their areas, and both institutions will cooperate and promote friendly relations so that the lives of citizens are protected.

Under the MoU, Punjab Police and Jiangsu Police General will ensure exchange of modern equipment and intelligence sharing to improve quality of policing, while regular training courses will be held to increase efficiency of personnel. Other measures including mutual exchange of training and conducting officers will continue.

IG Police Faisal Shahkar termed the MoU signing between the Punjab Police and Jiangsu Police an important achievement which will have far-reaching impact, adding that measures taken under the MoU would lead to capacity building of officers and modernization of the force.

Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren welcomed the MoU signing and said it a great step toward benefitting from each other’s experience.
