LAHORE: Lahore-bound Shalimar Express collided with a freight train near Jetha Bhutta Railway Station on Saturday.
According to a spokesman for Pakistan Railways, the driver and assistant driver of the train sustained minor injuries. He said that relief trains have been dispatched from Samma Satta and Rohri to the site. The engine of Shalimar Express and three coaches of the freight train derailed after the accident. Fortunately, no passenger was injured in the accident.
Rescue officials, after being informed rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to the hospital. Rail traffic on both up and down tracks of the main line was suspended after the accident. Railway authorities were mobilising machinery, including a crane, to remove debris of the engine and bogies of the goods train from the track.
The incident comes a day after a train rammed into a passenger coach at the railway track passing through Sucha Soda, a small town near Farooqabad in Sheikhupura district, killing 22 people including 20 Sikh pilgrims, a driver and his helper.
The tragic incident, when also left nine people injured, took place at a small unmanned level crossing/passage, just about 100 feet away from a manned level crossing at the track.
