Jang/Geo Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mir Shakilur Rahman’s elder brother, Mir Javedur Rehman, has been hospitalised and is in a critical condition, according to reports.
His family members and the employees of the newspaper he publishes have asked the public to pray for his recovery as he also suffers from lung cancer.
The Jang CEO is currently in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) since he was arrested on March 12 in a case pertaining to the purchase of a 54-kanal piece of land. He had gone to NAB’s Lahore office on a call-up notice for verification of the complaint, but the arrest was made.
His lawyers had claimed that his arrest was in violation of court orders and NAB rules barring the body from investigating businessmen. Later, he was remanded into NAB’s custody till April 7.
On March 16, opposition parties had filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the MSR’s arrest, stating that NAB had violated the constitution to arrest him and that his arrest had a specific context because he was being constantly pressured to stop criticism of the anti-graft body.
