PM vows to alleviate poverty, control inflation

–Imran says PTI govt will provide jobs to youth, transform country into welfare state

–Inaugurates tree plantation campaign in Mianwali, urges action against timber mafia

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday reiterated his resolve to alleviate poverty from Pakistan and to transform the country into a welfare state.

Addressing the 7th Annual Convocation of NAMAL University in Mianwali, he said that no country in the world can make progress without upholding the true principles of education and merit.

The prime minister said that the countries can only rise if they follow principles founded by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in Medina. PM Imran said that social welfare programmes of the incumbent government are aimed at transforming Pakistan into a country where social equality prevails.

Terming youth as a valuable asset of the nation, the prime minister said that youth are playing a crucial role in steering the nation out of prevailing challenges.

He also appreciated the NAMAL University for playing a vital role in social growth and economic prosperity of the country.

On the foreign policy front, he said the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and China always stood by Pakistan in time of need.

In his address, UAE Minister of Tolerance H.E Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahyan called for making joint efforts to address challenges and threats being faced by the modern world. He said that strong relations of friendship, brotherhood and cooperation exist between Pakistan and UAE in all spheres of life.

He expressed the confidence that under PM Imran’s strong enlightened leadership, relations between the two countries would further flourish in cultural, social and education sectors. The UAE minister urged all the regional countries to chalk out a unanimous strategy to deal with modern-day challenges, including climate change.

Earlier, in his address, NAMAL University Rector Arif Nazir Butt said that the university is working on the vision of PM Imran to equip students with necessary academic knowledge and requisite professional skills in diverse fields.

The prime minister also distributed awards and degrees to various students, who showed excellent performances in different disciplines.


Earlier, addressing the inaugural ceremony of Spring Tree Plantation Campaign in Mianwali, the prime minister said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is working on the agenda of making Pakistan a prosperous Islamic welfare nation on the pattern of state of Medina.

He expressed the government’s resolve to provide job opportunities to youth, alleviate poverty, and control inflation through prudent economic policies.

The prime minister said that the government will provide six million health cards to people across Punjab out of which five million have already been issued.

He said that the government will provide interest-free loans to 80,000 people per month, while 50,000 scholarships will be provided to undergraduate students every year.

Shedding light on the significance of the plantation, the prime minister said that the government is planning to introduce a subject of tree plantation in the curriculum across the country.

He also said the youth has a major role to play in making the tree plantation drive a success.

He said that the government’s Clean and Green Pakistan initiative in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) received global acclamation.

The prime minister directed the Punjab administration to prepare a strategy to deal with timber mafia, which is involved in massive cutting down of trees. He also appreciated efforts of the Punjab government in providing basic facilities of education, health and clean drinking water to masses.

The premier also inaugurated the plantation drive by planting a sapling at Kundian area of Mianwali.
