Pakistan’s talented weightlifter Rabia Shehzad has made the country proud by winning a gold medal in Glasgow Open Classic Weightlifting Championship 2020 in Scotland.
Rabia travelled from Karachi to Manchester and Manchester to Glasgow alone and managed to win a gold medal, thus becoming the country’s first woman weightlifter to win this title.
In November 2018, Rabia had also won a gold medal at the Ralph Cashman Open Weightlifting Championship in New South Wales, Australia. Rabia, who was 20 years old back then, had participated in the 55 kg category of the event and lifted a total of 90 kg weight, 40kg snatch 50kg clean jerk to claim the top spot.
Speaking to the media after her win Rabia had said, “The women players federation does nothing to help us participate in competitions.”
“I wanted to participate in the Asian Powerlifting Championship but the federation did nothing to ensure my participation,” she had lamented.
“Even the government does not help us. Whatever we do we do it on our own. The Pakistan Olympic Association needs to take action against the federation,” she had added.
Previously, Rabia had won silver at the Asian benchpress Championship in Dubai.
