Fishermen approach SHC against Port Qasim security guards

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notices and sought reply from respondents pertaining to a petition filed by fishermen against forcibly sending their launches to deep-sea.

An SHC bench heard a petition moved by fishermen of Rehri Goth, Lath Basti, Ibrahim Hyderi and Chashma Goth.

The bench issued notice to respondents for 28th January and ordered them to appear before it.

The petitioners including Irfan Aziz alleged that security guards of Port Qasim compel them to go into deep-sea.  He also stated that security guards also snatch their catch from them.

Petitioners also stated that the Port Qasim Authority has constructed a bridge after that going toward deep-sea is prohibited; however, security guards force them to go beyond this bridge into deep sea for fishing.

Petitioner Irfan Aziz informed the court that toxic chemical is being thrown into sea putting marine life including fish at danger.  He urged the court that ban might be imposed against throwing toxic material into the sea.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing till January 29.
