PM’s media adviser Durrani removed

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Media Affairs Iftikhar Durrani has been sacked from his post following which his name has also been struck off the cabinet list, according to media reports that emerged on Sunday.

Earlier, Durrani had been sent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to monitor the provincial assembly election in the newly merged tribal districts whereas he had been kept out of cabinet meetings for the last several months.

Durrani, on the other hand, has said he has not received any information about his removal

According to media reports, Punjab chief minister’s former spokesperson Shahbaz Gill is a strong candidate for the post of SAPM on media.

Gill had resigned from his post after the CM himself requested the former’s removal.

According to different sources, Gill was removed from his post because he was promoting himself instead of his boss.

“The Punjab chief minister had some reservations with Shahbaz Gill, and he was removed because Buzdar requested it,” Naeemul Haque had said in a video message.

It was reported that Gill would be given another post or he would be made part of the federal cabinet; however, no such development took place.

In November, former Pakistan Television Corporation’s (PTV) chairman Yousuf Baig Mirza had also tendered his resignation from the post of SAPM media affairs. In his resignation, Mirza had said he wanted to resume work in the media industry.

Further, former State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) governor Shamshad Akhtar has also been removed from the cabinet list.

Shamshad had refused to join PM Imran’s cabinet due to her differences over the allocated portfolio of special assistant on public-private partnership.
