LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday disposed of a petition filed by former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi seeking court directives for National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser with regard to the issuance of his production order to attend the Lower House session.
A division bench, headed by Justice Ali Baqir Najafi, concluded the hearing when it was informed that the petitioner’s production order has been issued.
A federal law officer also presented a copy of the production order to the court.
Abbasi had filed a petition in the high court challenging non-issuance of his production order. In his plea, former prime minister contended that he had written a letter to the National Assembly speaker for ensuring participation of all detained members in the session but no action had been taken in this regard so far.
He argued that the speaker had issued production orders of various members but he was ignored, which, he said, was a discriminatory act.
He pleaded the court to issue directions for the issuance of his production orders.
The petition said that under the Constitution, all citizens are equal and could not be subjected to discrimination.
