Imran fears ethnic cleansing in Kashmir by ‘Nazi-inspired’ BJP govt

–PM says ‘genocide in IoK will lead to suppression of Muslims in India and eventually lead to targeting Pakistan’

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the Kashmir policy of the Indian government was in line with the ideology of the far-right Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) party — the parent organisation of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) — that believed in “Hindu supremacy”.

In a series of tweets posted on Sunday, the PM said: “The curfew, crackdown and impending genocide of Kashmiris in Indian-occupied Kashmir is unfolding exactly according to RSS ideology [that is] inspired by Nazi ideology”.

“The curfew, crackdown & impending genocide of Kashmiris in IOK is unfolding exactly acc to RSS ideology inspired by Nazi ideology. Attempt is to change demography of Kashmir through ethnic cleansing. Question is: Will the world watch & appease as they did Hitler at Munich?” Imran tweeted.

On August 5, the Indian government stripped occupied Kashmir of its special status by abrogating Article 370 of Indian constitution. Prominent pro-freedom Kashmiri leaders were put under house arrest and a strict curfew was imposed in the occupied territory, that entered its seventh day on Tuesday.

Though Indian authorities claimed that the curfew was relaxed for Eid, occupied Kashmir remained cut off as phone and internet connections were suspended and residents did not have access to television or radio.

Prime Minister Imran expressed concern that the “RSS ideology of Hindu supremacy, like the Nazi Aryan supremacy, will not stop in IoK; instead, it will lead to suppression of Muslims in India and eventually lead to targeting Pakistan”.

I am afraid this RSS ideology of Hindu Supremacy, like the Nazi Aryan Supremacy, will not stop in IOK; instead it will lead to suppression of Muslims in India & eventually lead to targeting of Pakistan. The Hindu Supremacists version of Hitler’s Lebensraum.

He noted that the Indian government is attempting to “change [the] demography of Kashmir through ethnic cleansing”.

“Question is: will the world watch and appease as they did Hitler at Munich?” he wondered.

Meanwhile, the Indian Supreme Court on Tuesday refused urgent hearing in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) over clampdown in Kashmir and asked them to go to the registry. The PIL was filed by Editor of Kashmir Times.

Advocate Vrinda Grover asked for an urgent hearing, saying that the press freedom was being violated in the Valley.

The plea filed by Congress activist Tehseen Poonawalla was listed for hearing before a bench comprising Justices Arun Mishra, M R Shah and Ajay Rastogi.

“The inhabitants of the state of J&K are suffering on account of unwarranted imposition of curfew and/ or restrictions under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, preventive arrests, snapping of phone lines, suspension of internet services, media gag, barred access to healthcare, educational institutions, banks, public offices, shops and establishments and all other basic amenities,” the plea said.

Besides, a separate petition filed by Anuradha Bhasin, Executive Editor of Kashmir Times, seeking removal of restrictions imposed on working of journalists in the state after the scrapping of provisions of Article 370 sought quashing of orders imposing indefinite curfew/ restrictions, arbitrary arrests, shutdown of phone services and snapping of internet.

Besides the petitions filed by Poonawalla and Bhasin, the National Conference (NC) has also moved the apex court challenging the changes made in the constitutional status of J&K, contending that these have taken away rights of its citizens without their mandate.
