Islamabad Police ‘partying hard’ instead of acting against sheesha cafes

ISLAMABAD: Instead of taking strict action against the sheesha cafes in Islamabad, the city police is enjoying parties extended thrown by the owners of the illegal establishments who have also been accused of manhandling a journalist.

The district administration inconvenience with police has shut their eyes over the increasing illegal lucrative business of sheesha cafes in the federal capital. There are more than 70 sheesha cafes functional in different urban and rural zones of the capital.

A reporter of private news channel, Farid Sabri when tried to disclose the liaison between police, city administrators and sheesha cafe owners was manhandled by the mafia at E-7 on May 16, this year.

Simultaneously, a case was registered with police station Kohsar under non-bailable sections 382, 506 ii, 148 and 149 PPC.

Police remained failed to arrest the influential accused persons. One accused Hisaan Khalil Noon is the son of Tehzeeb Bakery’s owner, Khalil Noon and two others are nephews of former DG Education Atif Kayani.

On the last fast of Ramazan, the imitate family members of accused persons nominated in an FIR registered for manhandling a journalist, Farid Sabri and snatching his mic while covering sheesha cafes, had arranged a lavish chand raat party, which was attended by IGP Amir Zulfiqar, DIG Waqar Ud Din, SSP Farukh Rasheed and other senior officers of Islamabad Police.

A local court had earlier canceled the bails of accused Hisaan Khalil Noon and Saad Habib Kayani and ordered the police to arrest them, however, their heirs moved smartly and arranged a reception for the police high ups. Later on, Basim Kayani was also nominated in the FIR who he is still at large.

The Islamabad Police, which was supposed to arrest the accused persons, attended the aforementioned Iftar party instead of arresting them.

The Islamabad Crime and Court Reporters Association condemned the behaviour of Islamabad Police and decided to boycott all ceremonies of the capital’s police and their press coverage.
