176 accused arrested: arms, liquor, drugs seized

LAHORE: Police (Model Town Division) have arrested as many as 176 criminals and recovered 25 pistols, two rifles, bullets, more than eight kilograms of Charas, 315grm heroin and 274 litres of liquor.

The recovery came after the police busted five dacoit and theft gangs; arrested its 10 members along with recoveries worth Rs25 lakh from them. Moreover, 52 proclaimed & court offenders of A&B categories were arrested. Police also arrested 61 for violating kite flying, one wheeling, begging and loudspeaker acts.

On the instructions of Lahore Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Muhammad Waqas Nazir, search operations were conducted around sensitive areas of the city along with foreign consulates. Heavy contingents of Dolphin Squad, PRU, Elite Force, security agencies and Lahore police participated in the search operations.

He said that improvement has been seen in the provision of justice at police stations level due to the administrative reforms introduced in the functioning of the police. He said SHOs of all the police stations have been directed to sit in their office on a daily basis from 3 pm to 5 pm and listen to the issues of people.

He further said that it was the prime responsibility of the police to listen to the problems of every complainant and take immediate actions on merit in accordance with the law. Waqas said all the grievances of the complainant visiting open courts were being redressed on a priority basis.

To set an example, Muhammad Waqas Nazir held consecutive eleventh open court at his office and listened to the problems of the complainants. The DIG operations issued orders to the concerned officers on the spot for the solution of issues of the citizens. He said he had been listening to the problems of the complainants at his office on a daily basis following the open door policy of Punjab government other than holding open court every Friday.

According to a spokesperson of Lahore Police, the ongoing search operations were to create a sense of security among the citizens and maintain law and order situation in the provincial capital.
