IHC maintains stay on extradition of NYC attack suspect

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Friday maintained its stay order till next date against possible extradition of a Pakistani citizen allegedly involved in planning an attack in New York city.

The petitioner’s counsel pleaded before the court that no evidence was found against Pakistan’s citizen Talha Haroon for planning an attack in US city.

Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiani of IHC heard the case filed by father of Talha Haroon challenging the extradition decision of district administration.

During hearing, the bench remarked whether there was evidence of Talha’s communication with the main accused of this planning.

The petitioner’s counsel adopted the stance that his client’s laptop had been confiscated but no evidence was found. He said the US government had alleged Talha for planning terrorist activity with connivance of other accused but provided no proof against him.

Later, the court adjourned the case for a week, wherein the petitioner’s counsel would continue his argument.

It may be mentioned here that an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Islamabad had decided on January 15, 2017 to extradite Talha Haroon to US government after it demanded for him.

However, the IHC stayed the decision on March 27, 2017 on a petition of Talha’s father.
