FM Qureshi, Japanese counterpart discuss regional peace

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday telephoned his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono, to discuss Pakistan-India escalation and overall situation of the region.

FM Qureshi apprised the Japanese foreign minister about steps taken by Islamabad to defuse tensions between both the neighbouring countries.

“Pakistan is a peace-loving country and desires for enduring peace and stability in the region”, FM contented.

He said that a Pakistani delegation will leave for India on March 14 to attend talks over Kartarpur Corridor.

Recalling Pakistan’s initiatives, the FM said that Islamabad has decided to send back its ambassador to New Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Japanese FM appreciated Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision of freeing captured Indian Pilot Abhinandan Varthaman as a peace gesture.

Taro Kono urged both countries [Pakistan and India] to resolve their issues through holding negotiations.
