Pakistan decides to send its high commissioner back to Delhi

In a move to reduce tensions with India which escalated after the Pulwama attack on February 14, Pakistan on Tuesday decided to send its high commissioner to India back to New Delhi.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood was recalled after the Pulwama attack.

The Foreign Office (FO), in a statement issued on Tuesday, after the acting Indian high commissioner was invited to the ministry, made this announcement. FO said that the acting Indian envoy was conveyed that the Pakistani high commissioner was returning to New Delhi after completion of consultations in Islamabad.

The Indian envoy was also told that the Pakistani delegation would visit New Delhi on March 14 as planned for talks to finalise the modalities for the Kartarpur Corridor. The Indian delegation would then pay a return visit to Islamabad on March 28.

Pakistan also informed the envoy of its commitment to “continued weekly contact at the military operations directorates level.”

In recent weeks, the two countries mostly summoned each other’s diplomats because of the ongoing tensions.
