Sheikh Rasheed claims to be PAC member

LAHORE: Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Saturday claimed he is a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and that a notification regarding his membership has been sent out.

He was addressing a press conference in Lahore, during which he said that he can join the PAC any time he wants before commenting on several other topics.

“Asif Ali Zardari’s ‘fuse has blown away. He has lost his password,” he said while speaking about a likely protest movement by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

On the subject of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani’s arrest, Rasheed said that nothing has changed and things remain unaffected even after the arrest.

Regarding the health of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, the federal minister said, “He [Nawaz] started suffering from an illness, as soon as he was ousted from power. If he needs open air, Lal Haveli’s rooftop is available”.

“These people suffer from such ailments which have no cure in Pakistan and can only be cured in the United Kingdom,” he continued.

“These people were ruling the country for 40 years. Zardari wants proceedings of a case against him to be held in Karachi while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz wants the proceedings of cases against their leaders to be conducted in Lahore. There must be some reason behind this,” he said.

In response to a question, Rasheed said that he does not have any opponent in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI). “Imran Khan is my brother and PTI members are children,” he added.

In response to another question about the recent tension between Pakistan and India following the Pulwama attack, the railways’ minister said that Modi is trying to fight a war after losing the election in four states. “He [Modi] has created a 70 per cent chance of war. If India prompts Pakistan, a fierce response will be given,” he added.

About the railways, he shared all land owned by Pakistan Railways is being computerised. “We cut down on our expenses and earned Rs2.4billion. The department has decided to launch two new trains. Jinnah Express will run nonstop between Lahore and Karachi,” he told.
