Akram asks fans to show up for PSL matches

DUBAI: King of swing Wasim Akram has urged cricket fans to do their part by filling up the stadiums in the on-going season of Pakistan Super League (PSL), which started on February 14 with a glittering opening ceremony.

Wasim Akram – who led defending champions Islamabad United to the title in 2016 – has joined Karachi Kings as president for PSL 4.

The 52-year-old pace legend’s contributions towards the promotion of PSL is widely acknowledged. Young cricketers like Rumman Raees, Faheem Ashraf, Muhammad Sami and Shadab Khan have often credited Akram for their shining performances.

Apart from his professional responsibilities, Akram has felt the need to promote the national T20 brand which, he feels, has a great potential to turn the domestic game around.

He has recently urged the expatriates, living in UAE, to come to stadiums “in droves”.

“This [PSL] is our brand and we have a collective responsibility to make it successful,” he said.

Wasim was all praises for the administration on the conduct of a successful event like PSL.
